Emily White

“I never read,” and “I hate reading,” are two statements I revel in as a challenge! I currently teach ENC 1101 and workshop creative writing at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. I graduated from the same university with a BA in English literature and a minor in 17th century British Literature, with a concentration on writing. I am currently working on my MA in creative writing. I was originally born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, but have called Florida my home for the past 16 years.

I have a passion for picking apart literature and putting it back together again, as well as teaching these techniques to others. I also excel at writing for management and have a full-time hobby writing for pleasure. I believe these two tools (reading and writing) are essential to all, as they help motivate every aspect of learning– whether it’s understanding a textbook, passing your required English class, writing a college essay, or sending your recently acquired boss a professional email. I have a wide range of experience within the reading and writing world: I have tutored 5th graders on the old “F-CAT Writes”, taught 9th graders during their tough FSA reading and writing years, and am experienced in all types of college writing. If I can get a current-day teenager to passionately understand, cite, and empathize Shakespeare, then I feel my job has been done.
