Delfina Camilo-Arroyo

I am certified in Elementary Education, Spanish K-12th grade, and 11 years of experience teaching Spanish as a second language. I currently teach 2nd grade Dual Language through academics (reading, writing, math in Spanish).

In collaboration with another colleague, I lead the Guilderland’s Foreign Language Early Start Program (FLES) in Guilderland, New York. We wrote the curriculum for the program and implemented it. The program was very successful in reaching and exposing English native speakers to Spanish. This experience fueled my belief that all children can learn if you tailor the curriculum to the child’s style of learning, developmental stage, and also create a positive learning environment.

Throughout these experiences I have acquired a vast knowledge on how to approach students’ different learning styles that yield positive learning outcomes. My psychology degree allowed me to implement strategies that work when modifying students’ motivation and approach to learning.

As a native Spanish speaker and English Language learner, I have first-hand experience in learning a new language. I believe that if kids are given the right environment and support they will rise up to your expectations. I truly enjoy challenging my students and letting them know that learning a new language is possible.

As a teacher that has experienced being a second language learner, I’m always ready for design opportunities to adapt and explore new strategies that will make your child successful.
