Hello. This is my story.

My education was in the UK where I always had a passion for science. I started with a chemistry set and made a laboratory out of a kitchen which was originally in our upstairs apartment.

I attended Exeter University (BSc) in the UK and studied Chemistry, Math and Physics, then the University of Sussex specializing in Chemistry which ultimately resulted in a PhD. I started teaching while I was still writing up my PhD Thesis, and taught students of all ability and levels. I was able to adjust my teaching methods to whatever level of understanding the student had.

I was reluctant to go straight into industry and had a passion for teaching – and to teach in another country where I could indulge my interest in SCUBA diving.

I was appointed as head of Chemistry at Queens College, Nassau, Bahamas when I met and married my future wife, before settling into a higher paid research position carrying out R & D in batteries for electric cars; and in the nineteen-eighties drove an electric car for four years in Freeport, Bahamas.

When the company moved to China, I stayed in the Bahamas to carry out environmental work, in addition to training Bahamians in environmental assessment and cleanup.

Throughout this period, I have carried out private tuition to many students in math and science, some of whom had mathematics anxiety or disliked the subject, but I always found a way to make the experience more pleasant and to help them reach their (and their parents) goals.

I am now a semi-retired consultant and have believe that, to assist in understanding the various concepts, my real-world experience in science and math – plus my teaching background – gives me a great insight into illustrating mathematics.
