Hello. This is my story.
Raised in north Alabama, I was exposed to four distinct seasons every year. I miss those in Florida, especially Autumn—my favorite time of year for many reasons, not the least of which is football. I am an ardent supporter of the Crimson Tide I grew up watching on television. Even more so, I am an ardent believer in the lessons I learned back home. Privileged with parents who cultivated a love of the written word, I eventually went the way of the teachers who impacted my life the most: English teachers.
I received a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. After years wandering the West in Colorado and California, I made my home in Palm Beach County where I have taught for ten years. The vast majority of that time has been at Santaluces High School in Lantana, where I have taught English, biology, test prep, and reading.
I continue to adore the written word, and it is that spark that excites me most when I see it, or introduce it in students. Functional literacy is the most important skill a person can have. It is the necessity for the life-long learner. But even more so, there is no joy like that of an adept reader devouring a deftly written work. I do it for the necessity, but I love it for the joy.
