Hello. This is my story.

I became a teacher later in life, after years of uninteresting
employment interspersed with time off when my children were small. As a
young college graduate with a rather impractical Political Science
degree, I had no desire to spend another moment in academics. As life
progressed, however, I continued educating myself about anthropology,
history, linguistics, parenting, psychology, and other fascinating
subjects (I read a great deal). I wanted to help young people and
decided I could best do so in the role of teacher.

It is from the students themselves that we learn how to be effective
teachers. A responsive and observant teacher adapts to the needs of the
students. Young people, with a passing understanding of a few concepts
and short experience, may have misunderstandings undetected by the most
excellent educators. I constantly observe and question my students and
encourage them to question me until they “get it”. One-on-one tutoring
is the best way to connect with a student at their own level. Research
has shown that a belief in your ability to do well in math increases
your performance on math tests. My purpose is to build students’ math
confidence and open their eyes to the intrinsic enjoyment of
problem-solving.

I am available to tutor in your home or a comfortable location such as
a library study room. Depending on the student’s age and subject, we
may need lots of space for our work! My range is from Wellington
southeast to Lantana and Boynton Beach. I am eager to prepare students
for next year’s curriculum during the summer.
