Hello. This is my story.
With 23 years of teaching and tutoring experience backing me up, I strive to make my students stronger problem solvers while increasing self-confidence. Those problems may be in the areas of math, science, or language arts; however, the real issue is often an internal one. Sure, I work with my students to reach success in academic subject matter, but there are so many life lessons that can be taught alongside content to prepare for the future. Belief in oneself is the key to success, not an A in geometry. My philosophy is that educational institutions are teaching their students to become problem solvers and learn “how to learn.” Content often fades; life lessons do not.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Science Education from Anderson University, and have been a certified teacher since 1997. I started my teaching career covering high school Biology, Physical Science, and Chemistry in Indiana. While there, I found the value in having a low-lecture, high-activity classroom. Currently, I tutor many private students 5th grade and up and teach math, science, and test prep part-time at Oasis Academy in Miami. My favorite subject to tutor is math up through Algebra 2 for high school (I adore geometry) and Algebra for college, but I cover most other middle and high school courses too. Additionally, sciences are a true love (2 of my students have received 1st place in science fair). Test prep for SAT, ACT, and PERT are also favorites. On a side note, my daughter just entered college; therefore, I am familiar with the ins and outs of the high school graduation to college process. I am available Sunday to Friday from morning to evening. Daytime hours for virtual or home support are welcomed (rare among tutors). Early mornings or late nights are fine. I live in Pembroke Pines and can usually serve students within a 15 mile radius.
